About us
Passion & Respect
We believe our family run farming business has prospered over the last 100 years as a direct result of the standards we uphold that act as pillars of our operation and that help set us apart. It’s our relentless drive for Passion and Respect that has allowed us and the generations before us to grow and flourish into the business we are today.
Passion
We are passionate about provenance, and sustainable and ethical farming. These values drive our work to create an environmentally sound and welfare-orientated farm.
Respect
Our respect extends beyond our livestock to our land. We’ve partnered with Natural England to drive many environmental schemes on our farms. Our fields have grass margins around them, to protect hedgerows and encourage a safe environment for ecosystems to flourish. Many of our field corners are planted with wild bird seed mixes, or pollen and nectar mixes, to supply insects and farmland birds with vital food sources.
“Leaving a legacy for our children is very important to us,” explains Robert Mercer. “We have been farming these lands for 100 years and we hope to do so for generations to come.”
We are fourth generation farmers; our family have farmed in the heart of rural Staffordshire since 1922. Together, we have a lifetime of working knowledge, passed down from our father, grandfather and great-grandfather. It’s this familiarity with the land, that’s helped us develop our traditional approach to rearing our animals, and passion to provide low-density, environmentally sound, and welfare-oriented farms.
Our Values
At Patshull Park we strive to adhere to our values in everything that we do.
Protecting our Land
We continuously strive to improve our soil; growing a wide selection of crops, to give a balanced rotation to the farm, and utilising the manure from our animals as a natural fertiliser to reduce the need for synthetic fertiliser.
Respecting our Animals
Our animals enjoy the best possible welfare. We ensure access to lots of space, both inside and outside, which helps them express natural behaviours and to live happy and contented lives.
Increasing Biodiversity
By planting grass margins and field corners with wild bird seed, pollen and nectar mixes, we actively encourage a wider diversity of plants, insects, birds and mammals across the farm. We plant new hedges and manage existing ones to help protect the wildlife around us, throughout the year.
Supporting our Communities
We are focussed on successfully growing our family business and committed to making a positive impact on the communities where we live and work. Not only through what we produce but what we give back through our charitable activities.
Improving our Climate
We actively plan for carbon sequestration across our woodlands, grasslands and soil. And we endeavour to waste nothing, from the wheat we grow being incorporated into our animals’ diet, and the straw we use to bed them up.
